Complaints and Appeals Procedures
Complaints and Appeals procedures as per the Rules and Regulations of SSUFC from Feb/09. The By-Laws and Rules and Regulations were updated and approved at the AGM of April 12/10.
6 Complaints and Appeals
[a] Complaints
First Step
- Complaints about details of administration or procedures or conduct that have not been first resolved with the team staff or the Technical Director or the Board Members whose responsibilities include the field of complaint, shall be lodged orally, or in writing, with the President.
- If the President cannot resolve the matter he/she shall arrange a meeting (to attempt to resolve the matter) of the complainant with himself or his representative, another board member and when relevant, the Technical Director or Team Staff member or both.
- Complaints involving serious misconduct go directly to Step 2
- If the complainant is not satisfied with the outcome, he or she may pursue the complaint, by presenting it signed and in writing to the chairperson of the Complaints, Appeals and Discipline Committee by hand, by mail or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. - If this chairperson, after consulting the parties involved, believes the complaint has no merit, then the chair, with the approval of the Executive, shall inform the complainant in writing that the complaint has no merit, that the club will not pursue the matter, and the complainant may go to Soccer Nova Scotia.
- If the chair believes the complaint has merit, the chair shall refer the matter to the Complaint and Appeals Committee. The Committee’s hearings must follow the procedural guidelines set out by Soccer Nova Scotia in its Policies and Procedures Manual, Discipline Section.
- The Committee may take such action as it sees fit as long as the action is compatible with the

discipline guidelines and practices of the SSUFC and Soccer Nova Scotia.
A decision of the committee may be appealed: firstly to the South Shore District Soccer Association, secondly to Soccer Nova Scotia
[b] Anonymous Complaints
Will be referred to the Director Appeals, Complaints and Discipline, whose committee shall develop guidelines and procedures for dealing with anonymous complaints.
[c] Appeals
- A SSUFC club member may appeal, signed and in writing, any disciplinary decision made by the Club board, or any of its committees or individuals authorized to make disciplinary decisions. The Appeal must contain reasons for lodging the appeal with references to the relevant club policies, procedures, rule and regulations, by-laws.
- The appeal, addressed to the chair of the Complaints and Appeals Committee, and appeal fee of $200 in cash, must be lodged within seven days of the date of the decision appealed against.
- The Director responsible for Appeals shall decide if there are reasonable grounds for appeal. If leave to appeal is denied, then the appeal shall be returned with written explanation of the denial, and the appeal fee shall be forfeited to the club. If the application to appeal is allowed, the appeal fee shall be returned to the appellant, and the Appeal hearing must follow the procedural guidelines set out by Soccer Nova Scotia in its Policies and Procedures Manual, Discipline Section.
- The decision of the Complaints and Appeals Committee may be appealed first to the South Shore District Soccer Association, secondly to Soccer Nova Scotia.
